CHEDRA
Community Health, Empowerment, Development and Relief Agency
The organization was established in 2005 initially as a self-help youth founded group. CHEDRA registered in 2009 with the government of Uganda with its headquarters located in Kirumba ‘A’ Masaka District. Over the years, CHEDRA has expanded into a multifaceted organization that supports the population to improve fully in all sectors of life including Economic, Social, and Health aspects. CHEDRA is mandated to work in any part of Uganda. Currently, we have projects in 4 districts, Masaka, Kyotera, Rakai and Kalungu.
CHEDRA has vividly exhibited sound quality service delivery in areas of HIV/AIDS care for children, adolescents and adults. CHEDRA has initiated projects in the sectors of HIV Prevention, Sexual Reproductive Health, Advocacy, Human rights, HIV prevention research, Women Empowerment, Malaria control, Prevention of Gender-based violence, Education, Water and Hygiene, Environmental conservation, among others. CHEDRAs’ work is implemented by a committed long-serving team of full-time staff, international and local volunteers, DHTs, PLHIV, Community ART Groups, local leaders, politicians, the Fisheries Departments and Beach Management Units for fishing communities, leaders of sex worker groups, Prison, Army and police leadership, leaders of truck drivers and boda-boda riders, District and Sub-county Community Development Officers, District Probation officers, for guidance on service delivery.
CHEDRA collaborates with government, private not for profit and private for-profit institutions and development partners at international, national and local levels without discrimination in creed, gender, tribe or any social consideration. In 2017, CHEDRA received an award in the 8th South African AIDS Conference for its distinguished HIV services to Key Populations (KPs). CHEDRA has effective financial, human resource and logistics management systems as well as internal control systems with long-term experience in working with communities and implementing projects.
CHEDRA has proven track record of managing donor funds including funding from the Centers for Disease Control, (CDC), The AIDS Support Organization (TASO), AIDS Health Care Foundation (AHF) Infectious Diseases Institute (IDI), MILDMAY, Rakai Health Science Program (RHSP), Uganda Cares, International Partnership for Microbicides (IPM) among others.
To improve on the quality of life of indigent people affected by social and economic problems such as HIV and AIDS, poverty, food insecurity, injustices and natural calamities through working with the local community focusing on Health, Empowerment, Development and Relief.
